I had it all: an adoring husband, supportive friends, thriving career, a homey condo in the city.

Amend that.

I had it all except for love from my family. But life was spectacular because I had him. Max was everything I dreamed a husband could be and somehow he loved me just as wildly as I loved him.

Until one cruel night he was stolen from me.

Then I had nothing but a vicious battle ahead of me. It’s a struggle so treacherous, I’m not sure if I’ll make it out with my heart in tact. But on the other side of that brutal war waits the most wondrous prize.

Will I allow myself to move forward?

excerpt

Prologue – Hers

When my husband works overnights at the fire station, I sleep on his side of the bed. Max doesn’t know that even though he spends more nights in our bed than out of it, I miss him enough to burrow in sheets emanating the remnants of his aftershave. It’s like being cocooned in his arms even when he’s not around. Sleep comes easier over here.

That’s where I am, tucked underneath the down cover, safe in a dreamless slumber when a pounding rouses me. My heart leaps in surprise and I launch into a seated position, hand hovering over my chest. With a blind hand, I slap along the bedside table to find my glasses and jam them onto my nose. Knuckle pounding against wood doesn’t cease when I capture the time.

Nothing good can come of someone knocking on your door at one in the morning.

I scoot off the bed and shrug into the lightweight robe that lies on my husband’s suit valet.

He hates it when I leave my things there, I think numbly. Somehow my body’s moving forward, even though every nerve ending screams at me to crawl back into bed and pretend this is a dream. It’s almost like the Grim Reaper lurks on the other side of that door. I imagine a black hooded robe, bony skeletal fingers clutching a scythe waiting for me.

If there were enough time, I’d bargain with him. Beg to replace my life for his. Give up everything I have on God’s green earth for the man who gave me the gift of a full, flourishing life.

A knock on the door means it’s too late for brokering. If a ringing phone yanked me from sleep, it wouldn’t be this daunting. The fear wouldn’t be overpowering all of my other senses.

With a quivering hand I flip a light switch on and unlatch the lock on our front door.

Their faces are grim, solemn. Hot tears blur my vision before I can identify who has come to deliver the news. Even before they speak, a strangled cry rips from my throat and my knees buckle. Like a puppet cut from its strings, I collapse toward the floor. Strong arms encircle my waist squeezing me tight.

The pressure of this man’s arms around me is the only thing reminding me I’m still alive and not thrust into the depths of hell.

“Violet.”

“Don’t say it,” I shriek. A feral cat stole my voice box, the howls ripping from my body completely unlike any other sound I’ve ever made.

“Violet.” This time the stern voice fights through the tornado of emotion and I blink hazily upward.

“Felix,” I whisper through a dry, cracked throat. Soot and ash still mar his cheeks, hair disheveled in every which way. Weariness seeps off him, from the slump in his shoulders to the exhaustion in his eyes.

“We lost him. I’m so sorry. We lost him.”

I don’t remember much of anything after that.

I know what you’re thinking. It’s unconventional to want a man nine years older than you. It’s inconvenient to crush on your dearest friend’s older brother. It’s silly to pine after a man for six years. It’s cliché to lust after a celebrity. It’s pathetic to fall in love with a man who barely knows you exist.

I know what you’re thinking because I’ve thought it all, too. And yet that hasn’t stopped me from wanting Blake Campbell. Charming, gorgeous, brilliant, kind, selfless – Blake is everything I’ve ever wanted, but he doesn’t see me that way. In fact, he hardly noticed me until one night.

Traumatic events brought us together for the first time, but then he tossed me aside. I know it’s irrational, but I wanted him up until the moment he left me lying there alone.

When his eyes finally open and he finds out I’ve left, will it be too late?

excerpt

They say life is about choices. You spend your life making decisions and dealing with the consequences, whether they are positive or negative. In my tumultuous frame of mind, I make a choice. A very poorly thought out choice, but one that I have to live with, nevertheless.

As soon as Cassidy finishes her encore, I tell the girls that we’re going backstage to meet the singer. They follow behind the private elevator to the lower level of the Chi Center, talking giddily. I push their voices out of my mind, leading them with long, purposeful strides.

There are perks to owning the joint. The security guards clear the way for me, knowing not to bother me when I’m in a foul mood.
With a short knock, I push my way into Cassidy’s crowded backstage room. The moment she lays her fake-eyelash covered gaze on me, she squeals. The sound hurts my ears, but I pretend it doesn’t.

“Blake Campbell, I didn’t know you were coming back here!” She literally launches herself at me, latching her over tanned arms around my neck and thrusting her glitter-speckled tits against my chest.

And then, in plain sight of Stella, I yank the pop star into my arms and thrust my tongue down her throat.

You are a moron.

excerpt

Prologue

Some people trip over a crack in the sidewalk and meet the love of their life. Some people are walking down the street, lost in a text message when they literally stumble into their destiny. Others don’t have romance on their radar when they fall off the deep end and into the relationship that makes them whole. In other words, love finds them and not the other way around.

I’ve never been one of those people. Romantic. Dreamer. Idealist. I’ve been called them all. Those nicknames never bothered me because I knew all the way to the marrow of my bones that the love of my own life was not too far away.

In my mind, the scenario was complete.

Our eyes would meet across a crowded room.

No, that’s not right.

Let’s take it from the top.

He’d become aware of me first, unable to wrench his eyes away from my glossy back waves (thank you Italian heritage and superb genetics). They would tumble around my shoulders elegantly and I’d be wearing an outfit that elongates my short legs (stubs, as my cousins called them. Rude.).

In my mind, the moment I meet him is flawless.

Reality had a different idea.

Because when I found the man I knew I was destined to be with me, he hardly noticed me. Every time after, he saw me as nothing more than a friend to his sister. Most times we interacted he scarcely paid attention to me, if only to provide pleasantries.

Despite all that, my gut keeps telling me that I’m meant to be with him. I’m not giving up. No matter what.

excerpt

“New Point isn’t known for much breaking and entering, but I have to admit, this looks mighty suspicious,” an unmistakably Midwestern accent drawls from behind me, effectively scaring the sweat off my bare shoulders.

A shriek escapes from my lips as I teeter preciously on the wood chair and my hands lose their grip on the white doorframe. The rubber of my flip flop doesn’t provide much traction and my body pitches sideways. In just a second I’ll crash against the deck floor and I’ll spend the summer recovering physically instead of gaining back my old–

Sturdy muscular arms slide around my waist and yank me against an equally firm chest. “Woah, there. I didn’t mean to scare you.” The masculine voice has a smile behind it.

“Probably shouldn’t go sneaking up on someone then,” I mutter once I catch my breath and untangle myself from his grasp. He chuckles at my retort, a rich baritone that makes me feel like shivering.

When I’m a step or two back I’m nearly breathless again, but this time for completely different reasons.

Sturdy was one way to describe his muscular grasp, but now that I have a full frontal view of him, I see my mistake. He’s perfect. Thick arms with nicely defined muscles that don’t bulge too aggressively beneath his white T-shirt, a broad chest, trim waist with low riding blue exercise shorts. And that’s just his body. Bright white teeth gleam at me from behind a broad smile. Thick, dark curly hair begs to have fingers run through it and he has coffee colored eyes framed by long lashes most girls want desperately.

He’s a combination of sultry sex appeal and mischievous intentions as displayed by the twist of his lips. Less than one minute in his presence and I’m practically swooning.

“Who are you?” I blurt out.

With a smirk, he crosses his arms across the planes of chest. “Shouldn’t I be asking the questions, Ms. Breaking and Entering?”

Blurb:

Eddie Neff needs space. Not the type that country stars croon about, but physical distance from her emotionally distant father and the tatters of a broken relationship. So when the opportunity to relocate her life and interior design business arises, the answer comes easily.

Adjusting to life with Claire, her gregarious new roommate, is more than simply testing comfort limits. With just one meeting, Eddie finds herself unable to resist the draw of Harris Grant, Claire’s brooding and overprotective older brother.

Harris doesn’t fit her idea of a safe relationship. He pushes Eddie to face her deepest insecurities and fears of abandonment. And Harris holds on to his own painful loss, unable to overcome personal demons.

Eddie and Harris must learn to conquer their internal struggles. But as they navigate their new love, outside forces fight to drive them apart.

Author note: In Pursuit is the first book in a two book series. Intended for 18+ readers.

My Review:

Oh my, oh my oh my!!!

When Olivia Luck first approached me asking if I wanted to review ” In Pursuit” I envisioned a totally different storyline, but this was wayyyyyy better! Haha

Absolutely loved every minute of this.

There was never a dull moment.

I want to thank Olivia HUGELY for kindly providing me with a copy to read and review.

In Pursuit it about second chances at love and also at life

Having moved away from her friends and family, Eddie is looking for a change.

A change in her lifestyle

a change in location

and a change in her love life….well it will be non-existent now she’s left her prick of an ex….right? ….. right?

Having her friend “hook” her up with accommodation with a…a…well lets call her an “eccentric” woman, Claire, Eddie begins to feel at home…that is until she meets the moody and omissive, Harris Grant

The sexual tension between these two… the air literally crackles with expectancy

Eddie and Harris’ chemistry is undeniable, sure they both have a history and they’re both carrying some SERIOUS baggage on their shoulders, but it’s not enough. I need more detail woman!

I feet that Harris was holding a lot back and whatever it is, it’s shaped him into the man he is.

Harris seems to be an allusive mystery of a bloke that I’m struggling to figure out and Eddie, Well this woman is headstrong and a feisty little thing.

Family arguments and friends betrayal start to crack their relationships newly formed foundation..

“He’s the drain and I’m circling, circling, unable to resist him.”

Will Harris stand by his woman?

Can Eddie take the pressure?

Will these two FINALLY give it a go?

Can both succeed In Pursuit of their happiness?

I can’t believe this is Olivia’s debut novel…if her other books (please say you’ll write more) are anything like this or above it, well hold me down and fuck me sideways!

This woman will go far!

Word of Warning: The story ends with a cliffhanger.

I can’t wait to see what happens to one of my favorite new couples, Eddie and Harris.
