Nexis (Tricksters #1)
In the domed city of Evanescence, appearance is everything. A Natural Born amongst genetically-altered Aristocrats, all Ella ever wanted was to be like everyone else. Augmented, sparkling, and perfect. Then…the crash. Devastated by her father’s death and struggling with her new physical limitations, Ella is terrified to learn she is not just alone, but little more than a prisoner.
Her only escape is to lose herself in Nexis, the hugely popular virtual reality game her father created. In Nexis she meets Guster, a senior player who guides Ella through the strange and compelling new world she now inhabits. He offers Ella guidance, friendship…and something more. Something that allows her to forget about the “real” world, and makes her feel whole again.
But Nexis isn’t quite the game everyone thinks it is.
And it’s been waiting for Ella.
Firstly I would like to thank the lovely author & NetGalley for kindly providing me with a copy of “Nexis” to read and review
I’m a newbie when it comes to reading this author’s work, but don’t worry, I shall be familiarizing myself with her, I FLOVED this book sooo much 🙂
“Nexis” takes place in 2 different worlds, BUT what is real and what isn’t?
Ellani Drexel is from a city known as Evanescence. She has grown up in a world where members of the city do alterations and modifications on themselves to make them more perfect. Unfortunately for Ella she is known as a natural, no alterations or modifications have been carried out on her, through non of her fault though, she’d gladly have them done to fit in, but her father prohibits her from getting any in order to protect a promise made to Ella’s mother before she died.
What happens when a single moment in life rips apart everything you knew, everyone you loved?
That is one path that Ella is reluctant to walk down, but to get answers, it’s one she must do, but not alone….Ella embarks on a journey through “Nexis” and makes friends and finds new love on the way….
The descriptions are rich and vivid, there’s a pinch of humour, and Ella’s character goes through so much pain, anger and hurt, but there’a always light at the end of the tunnel right?
“I am preprogrammed, acting on impulse, dumping a vast memory into a whirling pool and somehow bringing order to it. Building a complex web. I am the spider. This is my venomous bite. I will make them see their folly.” ~ Ella
I was confused at the end, was it Gus? Or was it Quinton?
What’s up with Delia?
There was never a boring or dull moment. It does not matter what age you are; teen or older , you will absolutely love this story and become totally engrossed within Nexis, it’s as if you’re playing the game yourself 🙂
I will definitely be looking forward to continuing this series as with the ending of this book the possibilities going forward in this YA dystopian post-apocalyptic world seem to be endless.
I Would definitely recommend checking it out.
