As she sat on a park bench in the middle of Central Park, she couldn’t get over how beautiful and peaceful it was. The trees may have long ago lost their leaves and the grass may have looked almost dead due to the winter air, but Mother Nature was beautiful. Isla couldn’t help but feel blessed to be able to once again sit in the middle of it, rather than watch from a closed window. Looking at the picture-perfect view in front of her, Isla couldn’t believe she was in the centre of the most famous city in the world.

Although it was so cold, Isla couldn’t help but think how nice it was to be able to sit outside and feel the harsh wind against her cheek, breathe in the cold air, and just be able to be normal, even for just a little while.

Couples were walking hand in hand, children were screaming and running around and people just looked happy to enjoy the day. She’d always loved to be able to people-watch. People passed her by and it made her wonder what people would see if they stopped to notice her. Would they see the tears she had shed? Would they notice the finger marks around her neck. What would they see? Was it written all over her face that she was in hell, that she needed help?

It was at that moment, she realised that if she wanted her knight to come through the door, she’d need to dream him up.
She’s been doing it ever since.

~*~ Review ~*~ Nexis (Tricksters #1) by A.L. Davroe

Nexis (Tricksters #1)

Source: Goodreads

In the domed city of Evanescence, appearance is everything. A Natural Born amongst genetically-altered Aristocrats, all Ella ever wanted was to be like everyone else. Augmented, sparkling, and perfect. Then…the crash. Devastated by her father’s death and struggling with her new physical limitations, Ella is terrified to learn she is not just alone, but little more than a prisoner.

Her only escape is to lose herself in Nexis, the hugely popular virtual reality game her father created. In Nexis she meets Guster, a senior player who guides Ella through the strange and compelling new world she now inhabits. He offers Ella guidance, friendship…and something more. Something that allows her to forget about the “real” world, and makes her feel whole again.

But Nexis isn’t quite the game everyone thinks it is.

And it’s been waiting for Ella.

My Review:

Firstly I would like to thank the lovely author & NetGalley for kindly providing me with a copy of “Nexis” to read and review

I’m a newbie when it comes to reading this author’s work, but don’t worry, I shall be familiarizing myself with her, I FLOVED this book sooo  much 🙂

Nexis” takes place in 2 different worlds, BUT what is real and what isn’t?

Ellani Drexel is from a city known as Evanescence. She has grown up in a world where members of the city do alterations and modifications on themselves to make them more perfect. Unfortunately for Ella she is known as a natural, no alterations or modifications have been carried out on her, through non of her fault though, she’d gladly have them done to fit in, but her father prohibits her from getting any in order to protect a promise made to Ella’s mother before she died.

What happens when a single moment in life rips apart everything you knew, everyone you loved?

That is one path that Ella is reluctant to walk down, but to get answers, it’s one she must do, but not alone….Ella embarks on a journey through “Nexis” and makes friends and finds new love on the way….

The descriptions are rich and vivid, there’s a pinch of humour, and Ella’s character goes through so much pain, anger and hurt, but there’a always light at the end of the tunnel right?

“I am preprogrammed, acting on impulse, dumping a vast memory into a whirling pool and somehow bringing order to it. Building a complex web. I am the spider. This is my venomous bite. I will make them see their folly.” ~ Ella

I was confused at the end, was it Gus? Or was it Quinton?

What’s up with Delia?

There was never a boring or dull moment. It does not matter what age you are; teen or older , you will absolutely love this story and become totally engrossed within Nexis, it’s as if you’re playing the game yourself 🙂

I will definitely be looking forward to continuing this series as with the ending of this book the possibilities going forward in this YA dystopian post-apocalyptic world seem to be endless.

I Would definitely recommend checking it out.

As I approach the house, I can see that Gran is already in the garden. Knowing this isn’t going to go well with her, I suck it up and just deal with this shit literally.
“Lord have mercy, child. What happened to ya?” Gran says, looking toward me.
“Your boy down there had me take the cow shit to the compost pile and you can see the shit won,” I say with my arms crossed.
“Bless your heart. Did you not use the tractor?”
“Tractor?” At that exact moment, I hear an engine and I’ll be damned. Barrick is using a bucket to haul the rest of the manure down there. He looks toward us and waves. It’s on like donkey kong.
Casey Peeler grew up in North Carolina and still lives there with her husband and daughter.
Growing up Casey wasn’t an avid reader or writer, but after reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston during her senior year of high school, and multiple Nicholas Sparks’ novels, she found a hidden love and appreciation for reading.  That love ignited the passion for writing several years later, and her writing style combines real life scenarios with morals and values teenagers need in their daily lives.
When Casey isn’t writing, you can find her near a body of water listening to country music with a cold beverage and a great book.

~*~ Review ~*~ Crystallum (The Primordial Principles #1) By Laney McMann

Crystallum (Primordial Principles #1)

Source: Goodreads

Kadence Sparrow wasn’t born a devil’s child—she was turned into one. Now, she’s hiding from the truth, and running for her life.

For years, Kade’s true nature has lurked behind an illusion, so when her dad gets another job transfer, she knows the drill: no close friends, no boyfriends, and most importantly: don’t expose what she is. Ever. Keeping secrets is easy. Lies are second nature. So is the loneliness—and the fear, but when the Shadows attack, and Kade meets Cole Spires, she could expose everything she’s trying to hide.

As one of the Celestial Children, Cole lives by an oath: defend the Ward, protect the Primordial race, guard the gateways, and stick to his own. Everything else is a distraction, and besides, he’s lost enough. Cole’s job is clear, and no one his age does it better. So, when he meets Kade in a club downtown, he assumes she just wants his attention. Most girls do, but Cole soon realizes … Kade isn’t like most girls.

The children of heaven and hell are living among us, fighting an age-old war. And falling for someone from the opposition is not an option. But a chance encounter between Kade and Cole will blur the rules, as Kade’s journey to keep her truth hidden catapults them together and into a web of lies, forcing her to not only face the demon inside her, but to answer the hardest question of all.

Which is thicker—blood or water?

My Review:
Firstly; I would like to say thanks to Laney & NetGalley for kindly providing me with a copy of Crystallum to read and review.
Secondly; OMG! Did I mention how much I FLOVE Laney McMann….seriously, I’m hooked on her, I have been ever since I read her Fire Born series…..her work just keeps getting better and better
“A little bird, with plumage brown,
Beside my winder flutters down,
A moment chirps its little strain,
Ten tape upon my window pane,
And chirps again, and hops along,
To call my notice to its song;
But I work on, nor heed its lay,
Till, in neglect, it flies away.
So birds of peace and hope and love
Come fluttering earthward from above,
To settle on life’s window-sills.
And ease our lose of earthly ills;
But we, in traffic’s rush and din
Too deep engaged to let them in
With deadened heart and sense plod on,
Nor know our loss till they are gone.” – Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906)
So I’m sitting here trying to write this review, I can’t think of enough words to explain to you, how incredible this story was. Laney has done it again, but there was no doubt that she wouldn’t deliver to us.
Primordial, the celestial children; who fight demons and maintain the balance with the Leylines. (The Leyline grid is a barrier that shields the earth and connects all the planes. (Celestial, Infernal and Mortal.)) They are split into two, Primory and Primeva. This is Coles life, he’s the alpha of the Primory and has been all his life, also known as children of the stars and Primovis are those of pure blood and Primovas are those tainted with the devil’s child blood “demon”, also known as children of the moon, AND it goes to say that these two DON’T get along.
There are rules to says that the two can’t interact with each other to preserve the pure blood line.
“He’s never wanted to protect someone as much as he wanted to protect her, but he needed to get thought out of his head. She wasn’t his to protect and never would be.”
Kadence was fierce, outspoken, and strong while other times she was timid, meek, and clumsy, yes, that’s right, definitely clumsy, especially when she was around the deliciously HOT Cole Spires. Kade has rules to follow: no close friends, no boyfriend, and hide what she can do. And she followed them….well she did..But everything changes the start of her senior year at a new high school. In one week her entire life gets flipped upside down.
Kade is not a helpless female who needs to be saved. She is far from being a wimp, as she fights off the shadows herself.
Dreacon has been chasing Kadence since she was a young girl, can she finally escape him?
“This incredibly beautiful guy who practically exuded heat and arrogance was in truth, tender and sweet, and nervous. She smiled wider. Like an idiot.”
Which is thicker—blood or water?
The characters and the mystery of the Primordial race were very intriguing.
I recommend this page-turner to any reader who enjoys YA, supernatural, & fantasy.

~*~ Review ~*~ Gargoyle By Scarlett Dawn

A shifter made of stone. And wings.
A human bent on free love. And drunk.
A joke could be made with those two lines.

But the town of Woodland Creek, it’s no laughing matter. Hostile and magical residents guard their secrets. It’s too easy to be found out.

When Isaac Stone first meets Kennedy Kirk, he’s tempted to shove her off the clock tower. After all, she is gripping his private parts to lean over and see his town. One little push is all it would take…

Isaac never anticipated he’d be the one to fall.

My Review:

Thank you to Scarlett for kindly providing me with a copy to read and review!

I absolutely FLOVE her work, if you haven’t tried anything of hers yet, I suggest you guy buy them NOW!

What happens when instinct and Magic mix?

When a magical wave creates irresistible lust, Kennedy Kirk, and Isaac Stone, are trapped into a night of wild passion.

Not an issue eh?…. well for starters Kennedy is Human and a nobody in this small town after recently moving from Miami, and Isaac….well well well, where to start with this piece of hunk, he’s the mayor of this town……oh and of course he’s NOT human…..how about a shifter….well a Gargoyle, to be more precise. Yep, that’s him.

I liked the whole shifters and wizards theme going on

There are plenty of plot twists to keep you on your toes in suspense…

Too short for me, but only because I wanted more of the Woodland Creek world, Gargoyle was an amazing new read.

They say that time heals all wounds. Kenna has a chance to find out if that is really true.

My Review:
I would like to thank the lovely author and her team for kindly providing me with a copy of “Pretty Bird” to read and review.
Olivia Howe is a new author for me and this is the first book of hers that I’ve read
Finding out that you are the only survivor of a plane crash, one that killed the love of your life…earth-shattering….
I was going through every emotion I had while reading this story…
Things go from bad to worse as Kenna becomes a suspect in an assassination ring.
There was more going on that she could have possibly ever imagined and not only is her heart broken at the loss she has suffered but now, her life is in danger.
I can literally feel the emotions of Kenna whilst reading this, her pain, anger, grief and letting go.
I was nervous that with everything she threw herself into to get to the bottom that she wouldn’t be able to work through her feelings
Nathan was the hero that this book needed.
He not only let Kenna pursue the perpetrators but he was her sounding board and shoulder to lean on.
The story had me on tenterhooks, can Kenna keep her head out of trouble?
What secrets could she learn along the way?
Will she manage to find herself again?
